Discover one of Europe’s most storied waterways, the Rhine River, on a seven-night cruise aboard the MS Amadeus Silver III. Explore the Rhine Valley and the charming city of Amsterdam. Choose among included cultural and active excursions in Amsterdam, Breisach, Oberwesel and Speyer; even venture into France on excursions offered in Strasbourg. Informative lectures provide insight into the region, and you can partake in the German tradition of Frühschoppen, the mid-morning snack of pretzels, sausages and cold beer.

AHI FlexAir passengers depart for Amsterdam, Netherlands. Please check your luggage from your gateway city to your arrival city. Your claim checks should have the following airport code: AMS.

June 25 Amsterdam, Netherlands

Arrive at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Proceed through immigration to the baggage claim area and retrieve your luggage. After completing customs, AHI FlexAir passengers traveling on flights that qualify for the group arrival transfer and Cruise Program passengers who have purchased seats on the group transfer should exit the baggage claim area and proceed to the designated meeting spot, where an AHI Travel representative will meet them. The meeting location will be provided with your final documents.

Transfer to the pier and embark the MS Amadeus Silver III. Please note that if you arrive at the ship before check-in time, your cabin may not be immediately available.

Enrichment: Contemporary Europe. Join a discussion with a local expert regarding the latest issues affecting Europe. Learn about the development of the European Union, which began in 1951 as a small group of countries cooperating economically; its current membership; and its future.

Discovery: Canals of Amsterdam. This evening, board a canal cruiser to see this beguiling city from the water. More than 60 miles of tree-lined canals and waterways crisscross Amsterdam. Accompanied by a local expert, see its charming, iconic gabled homes, the house where Anne Frank and her family hid during World War II, as well as some of the city’s 1,500 bridges and dozens of islands.

June 26 Amsterdam

Personalize Your Cruise | Choose one of the following excursions.
• Rijksmuseum. Take a scenic ride through Amsterdam on your way to this famed museum. Then marvel at its outstanding collection of masterpieces, featuring works by 17th-century Dutch masters Rembrandt, Vermeer and Hals. Highlights include Rembrandt’s portraits, self-portraits and drawings, as well as his largest canvas, “The Night Watch.” Study the way Vermeer captured natural light so beautifully in paintings like “The Milkmaid” and “Woman Reading a Letter.”
• Waterland Bicycle Ride. Embrace Holland’s bicycle culture like a local and pedal through lush Waterland on a guided ride. Just outside Amsterdam, Waterland is made up of nine historical villages surrounded by marshy wetland. As you bike through this rural area, admire the villages along your route and stop for a pastry in the village of Broek. (Active)
• Jordaan District Walking and Food Tour. From its 17th-century roots as a working-class neighborhood, the Jordaan district has transformed into Amsterdam’s hippest place to shop, dine and unwind. With your guide, learn about its past as you meander through its tiny lanes and canals, lined with coffee bars, art galleries, vintage shops and boutiques. Along your route, pop into local eateries and shops to sample mouthwatering traditional snacks and treats, including poffertjes, fluffy mini-pancakes; kibbeling, crispy, battered fish with dipping sauce; flavorful herring with onions; and varieties of fresh Dutch cheese. June 27 Cologne, Germany

Discovery: Cologne. Germany’s oldest major city, Cologne takes pride in its vibrant cultural scene and its awe-inspiring Gothic cathedral. Topped by two ornately decorated spires, the church was under construction for more than 630 years. During a guided walking tour of the old town, marvel at the cathedral’s impressive exterior as you stand in Cathedral Square, and then step inside to see the stone columns soaring upward toward the vaulted ceiling. After your walk through the old town, shop or linger in a quaint café.

This evening, have dinner on board, or participate in the Elective Activity.

Elective Activity: Castle Dinner. Savor traditional German fare and entertainment in a medieval castle above the Rhine River. (Active) Available at an additional cost.

June 28 Rhine Gorge/Oberwesel

Today, sail through the beautiful Rhine Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage site, en route to Oberwesel, and pass Loreley Rock.

Enrichment: Castles and Legends of the Rhine. This celebrated river boasts some 50 castles, more than any other river in the world. The region is also rich with legends including the folk tale of Loreley, the siren whose song bewitched many sailors and caused ships to crash into the rocks. Gain a deeper appreciation for this storied locale from our cruise expert.

Discovery: Frühschoppen. On board the ship, delight in this delectable traditional German treat — a frothy beer, complemented by fresh pretzels, sausages and mustards.

After sailing through a portion of the Rhine Gorge, the ship will dock in Oberwesel this afternoon.

• Wines of the Rhine. As you glide along the Rhine on your way to Oberwesel, you are surrounded by steeply terraced fields of grapes that hug the hillsides. This is Riesling country, and Oberwesel is one of the largest winemaking centers in the Middle Rhine region. Visit a local winery and try some of the fine wines produced here.
• A Walk in Time. Known as the “town of towers,” Oberwesel retains much of its medieval character. Its old fortifications, including the town walls and 16 of the 21 original towers, are some of the best-preserved in Germany. They served as protection against attack in the Middle Ages and also conveyed the power and wealth of the town. Today, they offer fabulous vantage points to gaze over the landscape. On an invigorating walk, traverse these ancient town walls, towers and stairwells that lead to breathtaking views of Oberwesel. (Active)

Spend the morning at leisure during your journey to Speyer. Arrive midday in Speyer, where the ship will moor for the afternoon.

• Speyer Walking Tour. Take a guided walking tour of Speyer’s highlights, including the imposing Romanesque cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the burial place of the German emperors for almost 300 years.
• Heidelberg Castle and Town. Visit historic and romantic Heidelberg, including the red-walled castle with its giant 18th-century wine cask. Take in scenic views of the Neckar Valley and the city below, followed by an easygoing walk through the city center.
• Hike Heidelberg’s Philosopher’s Way. Visit Heidelberg’s city center, then cross the twin-towered Old Bridge over the Neckar River for a refreshing hike up legendary Philosopher’s Way, a path long favored for its beauty. Stop in the Philosopher’s Garden and admire the unforgettable views of Heidelberg Castle, the river and old town. (Active)

This morning, the ship arrives in Strasbourg, the capital of France’s Alsace region. The city’s lovely historic center, called the “Grande Ile” or Big Island, is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

• Strasbourg Panorama. Discover Strasbourg’s unique blend of German and French influences. Pass by the highlights, including Palais Rohan, an 18th-century building modeled after the noble mansions of Paris; St. Thomas Church, the main Protestant church; and the European Parliament buildings. Continue your exploration of Strasbourg with a guided walking tour of the historic center and a visit to Notre Dame Cathedral, considered one of the finest Gothic masterpieces.
• Strasbourg Canal Cruise and Petite France Walking Tour. Discover the 16th- and 17th-century heritage of Petite France, a delightful and picturesque district, during a canal cruise and walking tour. Fisherman, tanners and millers once lived in the many half-timbered houses lining the waterways. Visit Notre Dame Cathedral along the way.
• Culinary Strasbourg. Experience the Alsatian culinary scene on a guided tour that takes you to the city’s winstubs (small wine pubs) and other local cafés and shops. Along the way, sample traditional dishes and wines of Alsace. Visit Notre Dame Cathedral during your walk.

July 1 Breisach, Germany

Personalize Your Cruise | Choose one of the following excursions.
• Riquewihr and the Wines of the Alsace. Set in a little valley near the Vosges mountains, this enchanting Alsatian medieval village looks much as it did in the 16th century. Stroll through the quaint town, known for its fabulous wines and romantic charm, on a walking tour and sample some local vintages at a winery.
• Breisach and Freiburg. Begin your walking tour in pretty Breisach, full of pastel-colored houses and cobbled lanes. Next, head to Freiburg, a university town known for its sunny, warm climate. Explore the lively Augustinerplatz in the center of town, and visit the Freiburg Münster, the historic 11th-century cathedral decorated with vibrant stained-glass windows and lacy spires.
• Black Forest Adventure. Feel like a child again as you venture into the Black Forest, famous for fairy tales and fables. Explore breathtaking Lake Titisee on a leisurely cruise. After your cruise, go for a swim in its crystal-clear waters or wander through the town.

After breakfast, bid farewell to the Rhine River and disembark the ship in Basel, Switzerland.

AHI FlexAir passengers traveling on flights that qualify for a group transfer and Cruise Program passengers who have purchased seats on the group transfer depart for the Zürich Airport for your return flights home. Your Travel Director will provide the details.
