Injured bald eagle undergoes orthopedic surgery at UI

A bald eagle is recovering from complicated orthopedic surgery at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, which received assistance from the UI College of Engineering following the young bird’s injury.

On May 5, 2016, the eagle—in the care of the UI Wildlife Medical Clinic—underwent a three-hour procedure to repair its left humerus, which had been shattered by a gunshot months earlier and had healed out of alignment, leaving it unable to fly normally.
